Description
UV disinfection system Oman — an inline ultraviolet chamber that inactivates bacteria, viruses and protozoa as water passes through, without adding a single chemical to the supply. It is the final barrier on villa tank supplies, hotel and hospital distribution lines, food production water and any system where stored water sits long enough to grow something.
How UV disinfection works
Water flows through a polished stainless steel chamber around a quartz sleeve holding a low-pressure amalgam lamp emitting at 254 nanometres. That wavelength breaks the DNA and RNA of micro-organisms so they cannot reproduce. Contact time is under a second and nothing is added to the water: no taste, no odour, no chlorine by-products, no residual.
The dose is what matters. Effective disinfection needs at least 40 millijoules per square centimetre at the end of lamp life, which is the level referenced in WHO drinking water guidance and in most municipal specifications. A chamber sized on flow rate alone, without checking dose against transmittance, is decoration.
UV disinfection system Oman: why stored water needs it
Almost every building here stores water in a roof or ground tank. Tank temperature in summer sits in a range that suits bacterial growth, chlorine residual from the network has usually dissipated by the time water reaches the outlet, and tanker top-ups introduce whatever the tanker was carrying last. UV at the outlet of the tank handles all three cases.
A UV disinfection system Oman food and medical sites rely on is also right where chlorination is unacceptable: bottling and food production, dialysis and laboratory feed, and hotels where guests notice chlorine taste immediately.
UV disinfection system Oman: what it will not do
UV is a disinfection step, not a filter. It does not reduce TDS, hardness, iron or turbidity, and it cannot work through suspended solids that shade organisms from the lamp. Feed water needs to be below 1 NTU turbidity and above 85 percent UV transmittance, which in practice means a sediment filter, and often a 5 micron cartridge, ahead of the chamber. If the water is also hard or high in TDS, the UV goes after the softener or RO, never before.
Specification
- Polished stainless steel 304 or 316L chamber with flanged or threaded connections
- Low-pressure high-output amalgam lamp, 9,000 to 12,000 hour rated life
- High-purity quartz sleeve, removable for cleaning without breaking the line
- Controller with UV intensity display, lamp-life countdown and failure alarm
- Flow rates from 2 to 200 GPM, sized to the building’s peak demand
- Optional solenoid valve to stop flow on lamp failure, required on hospital and food duty
UV disinfection system Oman maintenance
The lamp is replaced annually whether or not it still glows — output drops well before the lamp fails, and a dim lamp disinfects nothing while looking like it works. The quartz sleeve is cleaned at the same visit; scale film on the sleeve is the usual cause of an intensity alarm in Oman’s hard water. Every UV disinfection system Oman installation we supply is backed by lamps and sleeves held in Muscat and covers UV units under annual maintenance contracts.
Point-of-use alternative
For a single drinking outlet rather than a whole building, the UV Water Sterilizer 12 GPM is the smaller inline option. Where the tank feed also needs particle removal first, pair it with a sediment prefilter from our range.
