Description
Cation Resin 25 Litre is a bag of strong acid cation (SAC) ion-exchange resin in the sodium form, the standard media used in water softeners. Each small amber bead carries exchange sites that capture calcium and magnesium from hard water and release sodium. When the resin is loaded, it is regenerated with salt brine and can be reused for years.
We use it to refill softener vessels, replace exhausted or damaged resin, and build new systems.
When does softener resin need replacing?
- Soft water no longer lasts as long between regenerations
- Hardness appears at the outlet even after regeneration
- Resin beads are passing into the house plumbing (broken beads)
- Resin is fouled by iron, chlorine or organic matter
- The softener is more than 7 to 10 years old
Chlorinated water slowly breaks down resin, and iron from well or tank water can coat it. A test of outlet hardness after regeneration tells us whether resin replacement is needed.

How much do I need?
As a guide, a 1054 softener vessel holds about 30 to 40 litres of resin, a 1354 around 60 to 70 litres, and a 1465 around 85 to 100 litres.
