Description
Commercial water softener Oman — the 1665 is a 16 by 65 inch resin vessel with an automatic control valve, sized for restaurants, laundries, small hotels, clinics and villas where hard water is damaging equipment faster than anyone budgeted for. It removes calcium and magnesium by ion exchange and regenerates itself on salt, with no daily attention from staff.
What hardness costs you in Oman
Feed water across most of Muscat runs between 300 and 700 ppm hardness, and borewell supply in the interior goes higher. At those levels scale builds visibly inside a water heater within a year, coffee machine boilers fail early, laundry linen greys and stiffens, and every tap and shower head furs up.
The cost is rarely a single large bill. It arrives as a replaced element here, a descaling visit there, and a steadily rising gas or electricity figure as scale insulates the heating surface. A millimetre of scale on a heating element raises energy use by roughly 7 percent, a figure consistent with the hardness guidance published by the World Health Organization.
Sizing a commercial water softener Oman sites actually need
Softener sizing is a calculation, not a catalogue pick. It depends on three numbers: hardness in ppm, daily water volume in litres, and how many days you want between regenerations.
The 1665 holds around 60 litres of resin, giving roughly 1,800,000 grains of capacity. At 500 ppm hardness that is about 60,000 litres of softened water per regeneration. A restaurant using 3,000 litres a day would regenerate every three weeks. Push the same vessel onto a laundry using 15,000 litres a day and it regenerates every four days, which shortens resin life and multiplies salt cost.
If the numbers point to daily regeneration, the answer is a larger vessel or a twin-tank arrangement, and we will say so rather than sell you the smaller unit.
Specification
- 16 by 65 inch FRP pressure vessel, rated to 10 bar
- Food-grade strong acid cation resin, roughly 60 litres
- Automatic control valve, metered or time-clock regeneration
- Separate brine tank with safety float and brine well
- Inlet and outlet connections 1 inch, bypass valve included
- Service flow to approximately 3.4 cubic metres per hour
Metered versus time-clock regeneration
A time-clock valve regenerates on a fixed day regardless of use. It is cheaper and fine for steady, predictable demand. A metered valve counts litres and regenerates only when the resin is actually exhausted, which on a site with variable demand saves both salt and water. For hotels and restaurants with weekend peaks, metered pays for itself.
Salt, drain and installation
A softener needs a drain connection for the regeneration cycle and somewhere accessible to load salt tablets. Plan on one 25 kg bag per regeneration for this vessel size. We supply softener salt tablets locally, so restocking is not an import problem.
Installation includes the bypass, drain line, commissioning and a hardness test before and after. You receive the inlet hardness, outlet hardness and the regeneration setting recorded on the handover sheet.
Softening is not purification
A softener exchanges hardness for sodium. It does not reduce TDS, remove bacteria or improve drinking taste, and softened water is not the right water for a drinking tap on a high-TDS supply. Where drinking quality is also the goal, the softener protects the equipment and an RO system handles the drinking line. On plant duty it sits upstream of the 250 LPH RO plant as pretreatment.
