The UV Water Sterilizer 6 GPM disinfects water with ultraviolet light, inactivating bacteria, viruses and cysts without chemicals. Ideal for villas and apartments in Oman with tank or well water. Supplied and installed by Farz Water in Muscat.

Description

The UV Water Sterilizer 6 GPM is a chemical-free disinfection unit for homes. Water flows through a stainless steel chamber where a UV-C lamp exposes it to ultraviolet light. That light damages the DNA of bacteria, viruses and protozoan cysts so they cannot multiply or cause illness. Nothing is added to the water, and taste, colour and odour stay the same.

At a rated flow of about 6 US gallons per minute (around 1.4 m³/h), it suits a single apartment, a small villa, or the drinking water line of a larger home.

Why use a UV Water Sterilizer 6 GPM in Oman?

Many homes in Muscat store water in rooftop or underground tanks. In summer heat, stored water can grow bacteria, especially when tanks are not cleaned regularly. Homes on well water or tanker supply face the same risk. A UV sterilizer adds a final safety barrier after filtration, so water reaching your taps is microbiologically safe.

  • Inactivates over 99.9% of common bacteria and viruses at rated flow
  • No chemicals, no change in taste or smell
  • Low running cost, typically one lamp change per year
  • Works with RO systems, softeners and whole-house filters

How it works

The UV lamp sits inside a quartz sleeve in the centre of the chamber. Water flows around the sleeve and receives a measured dose of UV-C energy at 254 nm. The electronic ballast powers the lamp and shows its status, so you know when it is working and when it needs replacing. For best results, water should be clear: we always install a 5-micron sediment filter before the UV chamber so particles do not shield microbes from the light.

Key features

  • Stainless steel 304 UV chamber
  • UV-C lamp with high-purity quartz sleeve
  • Electronic ballast with power and lamp-fail indicator
  • Compact wall-mounted design
  • Standard inlet and outlet fittings for easy installation

Where to install

For whole-house protection on a small home, the UV Water Sterilizer 6 GPM goes on the main line after the pump and sediment filter. For larger villas, we often install it on the drinking water and kitchen line only, or recommend a bigger model such as the 12 or 25 GPM unit. You can compare options in our UV sterilizers range.

Maintenance

UV lamps lose output over time even when they still glow, so we replace the lamp every 12 months. The quartz sleeve should be cleaned at the same time, as scale or dirt on the sleeve reduces UV dose. The pre-filter cartridge is changed every 3 to 6 months. To learn more about the technology, see ultraviolet germicidal irradiation on Wikipedia.

Frequently asked questions

Does UV remove salts or hardness? No. UV only disinfects. For dissolved salts use an RO system, and for hardness use a softener.

Does it need to stay switched on? Yes. The lamp should run continuously so water is always treated when you open a tap.

Can I add it to my existing RO system? Yes, a smaller inline UV can be added after the RO tank. Ask us for the right size.
