Description
Big Blue sediment cartridge Oman — a 20 inch spun polypropylene depth cartridge for whole-house and point-of-entry filtration. It takes out the sand, silt, rust and pipe scale that arrive with tanker top-ups and older building pipework, before that material reaches your tank, pump, heater or RO plant.
Why whole-house filtration matters here
Two things put solids into an Omani building supply. Tanker deliveries bring whatever settled in the tanker, and ageing galvanised pipework sheds rust flakes continuously. Both end up in the roof tank, then in the water heater, the washing machine solenoid and the shower cartridge.
A Big Blue sediment cartridge Oman buildings fit at the tank outlet catches that material in one accessible place, where changing it costs a few rial instead of a call-out.
Big Blue sediment cartridge Oman micron ratings
Cartridges come in 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 micron. The instinct is to fit the finest available. That is usually wrong.
A 1 micron cartridge on unfiltered tanker water blocks within weeks and starves the building of pressure. On most Muscat installations the right answer is 20 micron at the point of entry to take the coarse load, and a finer 5 micron stage downstream where the water feeds an RO plant or a dedicated drinking line. Staging like that costs less over a year than one fine cartridge changed constantly.
Specification
- Nominal 20 inch length, 4.5 inch diameter, fits standard Big Blue housings
- Spun-bonded polypropylene, graded density from coarse outer to fine inner layer
- Available in 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 micron
- Flow up to approximately 6 cubic metres per hour depending on micron rating
- Maximum operating temperature 52 degrees, maximum differential 2.5 bar
- Food-grade polypropylene, no binders or adhesives
Spun depth versus pleated
A spun cartridge traps particles through its full thickness, so it holds far more dirt before blocking. A pleated cartridge presents more surface area and is washable, which suits very high solids loads where you would otherwise change cartridges weekly. For most buildings the spun cartridge is the cheaper and simpler choice.
When to change it
Fit pressure gauges either side of the housing at installation. When the differential reaches around 1 bar, change the cartridge. That single measurement replaces all guesswork.
Without gauges, judge on colour and on pressure at the furthest tap. In Muscat, a 20 micron Big Blue sediment cartridge Oman villas fit at the point of entry typically runs three to six months. On a tanker-fed site it can be six weeks. Colour alone is misleading: a cartridge can look filthy and still flow fine, or look clean and be blocked with fine silt.
Where it sits in the system
Turbidity and particulate limits for drinking water are set out in the WHO drinking water guidelines. Point of entry, after the tank and before the pressure pump where possible, so the pump is protected too. On a treated drinking line it is the first stage ahead of carbon and then the RO system. On plant duty it protects the 4040 RO membrane from the particle load that would otherwise foul the element.
Big Blue sediment cartridge Oman stock and supply
Cartridges, housings, wrenches and mounting brackets are held in Muscat. We supply singly or by the box for sites running several housings, and AMC customers get cartridge changes scheduled rather than remembered.
