Description
DI resin cartridge Oman — a mixed bed deionization cartridge fitted after an RO membrane to take permeate from tens of ppm down to near zero. It is the last stage on laboratory water, autoclave and steriliser feed, battery top-up, spotless vehicle rinsing and any application where a dried drop must leave no mark.
What DI does that RO cannot
A good RO membrane rejects 95 to 99 percent of dissolved salts. On Omani feed water at 1,500 ppm that still leaves permeate in the 15 to 60 ppm range, which is excellent drinking water and unacceptable laboratory water.
Mixed bed resin removes what remains by ion exchange. Cation resin swaps positive ions for hydrogen, anion resin swaps negatives for hydroxide, and the two combine into water. Output can reach below 1 ppm, or above 1 megohm-cm resistivity, depending on inlet quality and how much capacity is left in the bed. Laboratory water grades and their resistivity limits are defined in the ISO 3696 standard for analytical laboratory water.
Where a DI resin cartridge Oman labs fit is used
- Laboratory reagent and glassware rinse water
- Autoclave and steriliser feed, where scale destroys the chamber
- Analytical instruments and water baths
- Battery top-up and coolant mixing
- Final rinse on vehicle washing, where spotting is the whole point
- Humidification and misting systems that would otherwise leave white dust
Capacity, and why inlet TDS decides everything
Resin capacity is fixed. How long a cartridge lasts depends entirely on how much work it has to do. A cartridge fed with 20 ppm permeate lasts roughly three times as long as the same cartridge fed with 60 ppm. That is why a failing RO membrane shows up first as a DI cartridge that suddenly needs changing monthly.
If your DI consumption has jumped, test the RO permeate before ordering more resin. The membrane is usually the real problem, and replacing a 4040 RO membrane costs less than a year of premature DI changes.
DI resin cartridge Oman: colour-changing resin
We supply colour-indicating mixed bed resin where the application justifies it. The bed starts blue-green and turns amber as it exhausts, so exhaustion is visible through a clear housing rather than discovered when a batch of samples is contaminated. For laboratory duty it is worth the small premium.
The reliable check is still a TDS or resistivity meter on the outlet. Colour tells you when it is finished; a meter tells you when it is finishing.
Specification
- Inline cartridge with quick-connect fittings, or standard 10 and 20 inch housing formats
- Nuclear-grade mixed bed cation and anion resin
- Outlet quality below 1 ppm TDS from good RO permeate
- Colour-indicating option available
- Single use, not regenerated on site
Important limits
DI resin is not a disinfection step. An exhausted bed sitting warm is a comfortable place for bacteria, so on laboratory and medical duty a DI stage is followed by UV disinfection at the point of use. DI water is also aggressive and will attack copper and mild steel; pipe it in PP, PVDF or stainless.
Never run a DI cartridge on raw feed water. Without RO ahead of it, the bed exhausts in days.
DI resin cartridge Oman stock and supply
Cartridges and bulk resin are held in Muscat. We supply lab and hospital sites on standing orders so cartridges arrive before the old ones exhaust, and we test the RO permeate at each visit so a declining membrane is caught early.
