Description

RO Membrane Oman — the RO Membrane 100 GPD Dupont Filmtec is the genuine replacement element for domestic and light commercial reverse osmosis systems across Oman. Rated at 100 gallons per day with up to 98 percent salt rejection, it fits any standard 1812 membrane housing and is the part that does the actual work of turning high-TDS Oman feed water into drinking water. FARZ Water stocks genuine Dupont Filmtec membranes in Muscat, not unbranded copies, because the difference in rejection rate and service life is substantial and shows up in your TDS meter within weeks.

RO Membrane Oman: Why the Choice Matters

Membrane performance is measured by two numbers: how much water it produces and how much salt it rejects. On Oman feed water in the 800 to 1,500 ppm range, a genuine Filmtec element will hold rejection above 95 percent for two to three years. Cheap copies often start around 90 percent and fall away within months, which means your permeate TDS climbs from 30 ppm to well over 100 ppm and the water starts tasting like the supply again. Since the RO Membrane Oman systems depend on is the single most expensive consumable in an RO system, buying the cheap version is a false economy that shortens the interval between replacements.

Specifications

  • Rated production 100 GPD (approximately 378 litres per day at test conditions)
  • Nominal salt rejection 96 to 98 percent
  • Standard 1812 dimensions, fits all common domestic RO housings
  • Thin-film composite polyamide membrane construction
  • Maximum operating pressure 8.6 bar (125 psi)
  • Maximum feed temperature 45°C
  • Feed water pH range 2 to 11 for continuous operation
  • Maximum feed chlorine tolerance below 0.1 ppm — carbon pre-filtration is mandatory
  • Maximum feed turbidity 1 NTU, SDI below 5

When to Replace Your RO Membrane

Three signs tell you the membrane is finished. Permeate TDS rising steadily above 10 percent of feed TDS is the clearest one, so keep a handheld TDS meter and check monthly. Falling production, where the storage tank takes noticeably longer to fill than it used to, is the second. Third is simply age: on Oman water most 100 GPD elements last two to three years with correct pre-filtration, less if the sediment and carbon cartridges have been left in place too long. Replace the sediment and carbon pre-filters at the same time as the membrane, otherwise the new element will foul quickly on carryover from the old cartridges.

Installation Notes

Shut off the feed, depressurise the system, and drain the tank before opening the housing. Note the orientation of the old element, since the brine seal must face the feed side, and lubricate the O-rings lightly with food-grade silicone. After fitting, run the system to drain for at least 20 to 30 minutes to flush the preservative coating off the new membrane, then discard the first full tank before drinking. Membrane rejection and fouling behaviour follow the principles described in the U.S. EPA drinking water resources.

Availability and Support

Genuine Dupont Filmtec membranes in 50 GPD, 75 GPD, 100 GPD, and 400 GPD ratings, plus commercial 4040 and 8040 elements, are held in stock in Muscat. FARZ Water can supply the membrane alone for self-installation or send a technician to replace it and take before-and-after TDS readings as part of a service visit. Ask about a scheduled replacement plan so cartridges and membranes are changed on time rather than after the water quality has already dropped.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I fit a 100 GPD membrane in a system that came with a 75 GPD element? In most cases yes, since both share the same 1812 housing dimensions. The higher-rated element fills the tank faster, but it also needs a matching flow restrictor on the drain line to keep the recovery ratio correct. Fitting a 100 GPD membrane while leaving a 75 GPD restrictor in place will raise your permeate TDS and shorten membrane life, so change both together.

Why does my new membrane still give high TDS? Usually one of three things: the flush after installation was too short and the preservative is still coming off, the brine seal is fitted backwards or damaged, or the automatic shut-off valve is leaking and letting feed water bypass into the product line. Check those before assuming the element is faulty.
